Silent Running : Metal Cover
This is a Metal Cover of an old 1980's song from Mike and the Mechanics - called Silent Running.
This song lyrically has many Orwellian overtones, and found it fitting for out current times. Social and Political unrest, government over reach, and sadly enough - us fighting among ourselves when the real enemy is in suits.
This one took me quite a while to nail down. Though I could not have done this without the help and professional work of the following people.

Mesa Boogie Shootout: Stiletto Deuce II vs Dual Rectifier Roadster

Mesa Boogie Shootout: Stiletto Deuce II vs Dual Rectifier Roadster
After owning many Mesa's and this is true of most amps a well set EQ pedal in the loop is like magic
Want an amp model impulse response for the quad cortex for this massive tone.
Is the Mesa oversize slant? Traditional straight front would be closer to the splawn
Oversized slant.
At one time I had the 4x12 and got frustrated often due to the big bottom end and no matter how much EQ editing I did it was still too much. I got rid of them, unfortunately! Today, I purchased the 2x12 Recto cabinet and after hearing your comparison I think I'm going to be happy. there is a more midrange and less low end to Thant the 4x12. The 4x12 still are nice but... I'm going to run a VHT power amp with a Bogner Uberschall Synergy module and a parametric EQ with my EMG's hum bucker.
Ohh man! I bet that set up will sound mean as hell!!! Yea 2x12's are perfect - honestly much of that low end that you get from playing a 4x12 is more self serving than not. If I was a giving artist - Id rock a 2x12 all day. If I was a recording artists/producer - Id get a 4x12 simply for the versatility of having 4 speakers, with each having their own voicing.
Freidman is very better!!
Hello, thanks for the excellent video. What do you think about if i use that “darkly” roadster on my marshall 1960av cab, will it help to darkness of amp?
1985 had an upgrade.
The 412 sounds like it has reverb and the 212 doesn't.
Mesa and a Camo Hornady hat.. subbed and liked!! Great riff and demo, i dig both. You can push the heck out of a 212.
Splawn for the win for me 🤘🤘🤘
Great video and thanks for the time and the effort. Your Gibson Les Paul Custom is gorgeous. Cheers!
Thank you for the kind words! Thanks for watching!
@@Jon_Tate Hey and howdy, your riffage also really helps out with showcasing the difference between the two cabs. Cool riffs, have a good one and Cheers!
4x12 sounds much better
Not bad, not bad at all. Btw, me and Adam Jones are not boosting recto. Or were not boosting. Mine is stashed away and who knows what Adam did to his recto.
Thanks for the complement! Very interesting - thanks for that bit of info!
Great video! I like 8 ohm speakers. I have two Mesa 4x12's and a 1x12. I would like to know if a 2x12 sounds better with 8ohm speakers for a 16ohm load. Or 16ohm speakers for an 8ohm load. What would sound more like my cabs?
Thanks for the complement and for watching! If you tend to like 8OHM speakers - Id say just rock that. I kinda think we all too often get into the weeds unnecessarily - the differences between 8 and 16 OHMS can easily be made up for by mic placement or subtle amp EQ adjustments.
⚔️ 2:30
Multiwatt hands down, Roadster = blanket, however, when the OD entered, it was perfectly eq'd for the Roadster as it is a darker amp, and it was a little to brite with the Multiwatt, still the MW hands down
Wow your riffs are beautiful. Such melody. Came here for the Roadster tones, stayed for the playing. Subbed,
Thank you for the kind words! Much appreciated!
@@Jon_Tate I am so on the fence with my Boogie GAS. Mark VII coming today but really want a recto. However I love how the Roadster has Reverb, 4 channels and a few more bells and whistles. But in the past I SUCK at dialing out flub like you did. I also have some OD pedals and love the Precision Drive with the attack knob for really tightening up the flub.
@@mesaseany The Boogie GAS is real!!! The Roadster certainly an extremely versatile amp for the features that you mentioned. If you already have the Mark on lock - and if you can find a deal on a Roadster - that would certainly allow you to cover the iconic Dual Rec sound. Yes it can get flubby with your rather typical EQ settings (most people dime out the bass, cut mids, etc.) I dont think needing to use an OD to shape your sound is a deal breaker - I mean - why not make use of all those over drives anyhow!!
This confirms for me again why I moved from a Roadster to a Mark V. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Roadster, but I’m just a Mark guy. Solid comparison!!!
Thank you! Yea the Mark is quite a bit tighter and shapable (is that even a word- hahaha). Thanks again! Keep riffing!
Sounds better off
I really like your lack of bias and just sticking to what is apparent in terms of pros cons vs the two, Im gonna be running my evh 2x12 and zilla custom mesa spec standard 4x12 together to get a nice blend I think
Thank you! Its not always easy because we all have biases, or favor things to justify cost and such. That combination you mentioned should be pretty rad! Thanks for watching and for the comment!
For the chug the 4x12 but for everything else the 2x12 sounds better, I'd say use em both for complete domination
Stiletto - especially if you play in a band
Is the overdrive more a tube screamer style or is more of an open overdrive?
@timothyrussell2971 the OD is more of a transparent OD/boost. I wouldn't say that it is in the tube screamer category. The style of OD that is on board allows you to clean up and tighten the fuzz characteristics.
Id go for the multi watt. But if i get an roaster for free id get it. Nice comparison 🤘🤘🤘
Thank you! Yea free is always better - haha the Multi-watt is undeniably awesome!
Mesa Stiletto for me.
Amazing video man. Love the riffs. I'm becoming a mesa fan since my trip to sweetwater. Played a badlander now I'm hooked. The dual rec multi is the best sounding with gain. Cleans go to the roadster. A dirty tree would make that roadster impossible to beat though
Thanks!! Yea the Multi is certainly a very versatile amp. I myself have not had a chance to mess with a Badlander, but want too. I agree with you on the Roadster cleans, while the Multiwatt cleans are very pristine, the Roadster cleans have a mojo that's pretty fun to play with. Thanks again for the comment, and watching!
In the mix the Splawn sounds better to my ears
Dude, you make some really nice videos, it’s a shame you don’t do them much anymore
Thank you for the complement! Hopefully some of the videos will remain useful to some as time marches on. Thanks again!
Loved the dark evilness and lower mids of the roadster but although people say friedman aren't raw and are more polished and refined i found the opposite here the friedman seemed more raw and bitey and roadster too smoothed out and polished.
Dude where have you been 💔? I hope all is good 🔥🤘🔥
I clicked thumbs up at 0:06. I've been waiting for a 2022 version of this prophetic song(anthem). Endure to the end.
Thanks for giving it a listen. Yea, Im not sure how much more prophetic it could get - if anything the song or reality is merging rather quickly.
4X12 com 'on man!
You know it!!
I've been playing a Roadster 2x12 combo since 2008, love that amp but the multi watt has it beat IMHO. The roadster is a dark amp no question. Over the years i ran a TS808 org reissue to help clear some mud on ch.3+4 and that def helped. Whats really saved it for me the last year was adding a MXR 10 Band EQ in the loop and the addition of a Horizon Devices(MXR) Precision Drive out in front of the pre amp. I've had a bunch more fun jamming since i've tightened up the low end and eliminated some of the darker tones that w/o a boost you just cant dial out! In the next few years though im gonna treat myself to a new mesa, its either gonna be the dual rec multi or a mark 5. The roadster is a tweakers amp for sure, i still find new settings each time i jam. It was a $2400 investment that has surely been worth every penny. Awesome playing BTW man, crazy to think this was uploaded just as the CV19 pandemic was shuttering the world..2 years goes by pretty fast!
I never got around to using a EQ like you described though I wish I would have. I bet that combination with the OD is pretty gnarly. Yes - haha crazy to think its been 2 years. I have no doubt that if or when you do treat yourself to a new Mesa - the multi-watt will bring a smile to your face. Thanks for watching man! and thanks for the compliments! Keeping riffing!
Great sounding melodies with driving rhythm's! Can't get this out of my head, It's been 4 days now and I keep coming back for more! Multi-watt all the way!!! Thank for making these videos!!!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!

@@Jon_Tate Anymore music that you'll be releasing? Love the political lyrics and the LOG vibe of the music.
@@firststep7750 Thanks! I don't have anything on the immediate horizon - however, I do have an idea on the burner to sling shot Linking Parks "My December" into a rather heavy LOG style song. Its just taking some time - along with normal everyday life getting in the way - hahaha.
@@Jon_Tate That LP idea sounds ace! I'm looking forward to that. I would've thought you'd be in band given your talent. But priorities can be other things which is fair enough. Good luck with the project.
I think it’s been too long since you made a vid! Still playing the JJ?
nailed it....
Thank you!
nice video and sound....i'll try cranking the mid knob a bit whilst in the jbe mode....
Thank you! Yea give it a try - I mean I still haven't found a sound that I don't like on this amp - but some minor tweaks make it even sweeter.
I miss this amp, I tried one early 2000's and its the only Boogie I could really connect with. What new Boog has this same mojo???
If you long for the Stiletto - Id say the new Mark V's would fill that niche - if you are longing for a Roadster vibe= hands down the new multi-watts just crush.
@@Jon_Tate Thanks Jon, after much thought I have decided to just get a 2nd Germino Lead55 LV, a load box, use a boost and roll with it. Plexi experience has paled my need of preamp tube gain amps. I will just cut down on gear as well. The Germino is now 2800.00, so its not cheap, but I will not be without a JMP hi gain sound. Thanks for reply once again.
Splawn !!!! The guitar lives in the Midrange
Solid choice!
Great video. I've been running a Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra through my Roadster. Surprisingly, channel 1 sounds like absolute raging magic with the Sabbra. It's just the best clean and saturated distortion sound I've ever had. Love it.
Thanks man! Oh man - I bet that does sound incredible!!!
Be a good human and don't be a dumbass. Fucking wise words to live by.
Thank you for this. pretty nuts I gotta give it to the multi watt it cut through alot better in the mix with no processing. The roadster is rather muddy. Although some brightness with some OD and some minor EQ and it would be in almost the same ball park.
You are welcome! Yea I agree with some common practices (OD, and a EQ in the loop). you can certainly breath new life into a Roadster. I
Run them together would be best of both in sync
Yep - both together equal sonic bliss!
Seriously bad ass riff after 2:40. Bolt thrower but heavier with a great tone. Very well done. Thank you for taking the time to put this comparison out there. Very helpful. Even better on the headphones than the iPhone as you said. I heard the extra high frequency sizzle and presence in the Multi Watt. Curious what pickups and speakers you are using. Thank you
Hey! Thanks for your complements. Really appreciate it! The pick ups are the stock LPC pups 490R and 498T - I simply removed the covers. The "speakers" used in this was an impulse response of a Mesa OS Cab from Two Notes - I used the Torpedo Live just to ensure no user error in mic placement on my end - and to eliminate that variable so that you can hear the difference in the amp precisely. Thanks once again for the kind words and keep on riffing!
Awesome thanks for the reply and information. Great tone all around.
Sickkkkk tone and playing. Love it. Would you consider owning a mesa badlander? Would your shoot it out with the rectifier? I’ve been hoping for an amp demo with your playing style. Really appreciate your upload.
Thanks for the complements! Im not quit sure if the Badlander scratches an itch that I cannot get from my multi-watt. I sometimes like the saggy-ness of the tube rectification - but thats just me. So at least for now - I dont see a Badlander in my collection - Im sure some other kick ass channel will compare the two before too long.
Great video Jon Tate! I’ve got the “Blackout” one the way this January! Subscribed 🤘
Thank you for watching! Im pretty darn certain you will be pleased with it!
Adam Jones liked this video 😉 great tone btw
